Oversized Ruler Growth Chart

http://www.dearlillie.com/product/oversized-ruler-growth-chart

A lot of my blog traffic comes from Pinterest, and because of that, I get loads of questions about the ever-popular image above that I blogged about here a while back.  This ruler is made by Jennifer, who (beautifully) blogs at Dear Lillie and sells them in her online shop

I wanted to give you the source info and a quick heads up.  I checked her site earlier today and the ruler in this wood finish is being restocked on January 17th!  Hope this helps all who have emailed and asked.

And, in case you’re wondering, I opted for a more permanent solution to track our quickly growing brood.   We make a height mark and trace their hands with a Sharpie each birthday.  The kids think it’s so special that we make a mark on the wall in their honor on their big day, and they love to compare their current height to the marks throughout the year. (Yes, if we ever move, I’ll be sad.  But, we have no plans, and you can’t live for the “just in case”—right?)

  2. I have no kids at home or any grands, but how fun that oversized ruler would be. But where would I put it?

  3. Love the ruler! We always marked the kids on the laundry room wall - alas we moved - it was sad to leave behind all those memories.

  4. Love this idea for a growth chart! I DIY'd one (handpainted, with a different look) for a friend and was contacted by an Etsy shop who makes decals for ones like this so people can get the look without having to stencil. Great idea, right?!

  5. Thx for posting about this Emily. So funny, I was over my friends house and she had a growth chart just like yours and I loved it! Now, that Elizabeth can walk and we're in our new house, it just reminded me that I want to do this too!!

    1. I know. I'm trying to decide what to do about the twins if they're not walking by their first birthday. Do I just prop them up against the wall?? :)

  7. My husband started doing this in my son's closet. Who knows? Anyway, before I painted it he made sure to measure each mark so he could transfer it to the garage wall next to the door. It brings such a smile to my face when I see it!

We are military so moving around is inevitable but this works out perfect to take with us whereever we may go.

  10. In my childhood home we had a measuring wall, not only us but all of our extended cousins, aunts and uncles were measured as well, I think even my doll had a turn and the dog! When we left my mum traced the whole thing onto baking paper or tracing paper to keep the memories. I'd love to compare my girls now against me, see how much taller they are than I was!! I'll have to ask mum to dig it out!

  14. Love the wall - one house we moved into did this on the back of a hall closet door. When we moved in we added my nephew to this a few times. I still kick myself for not bringing the door with me when we moved. Doing this on the back of a door would make it so easy to take if you did move. In your case, ff you ever move you could always cut out that section of wall board to take with you and repair the wall. You could then frame it for an art piece in your new home. I'm just a little sentimental. :)

  15. LOVE! I think it's so cute that you trace their hands. I will have to start doing that. Smart cookie, you!
